As a businessperson or an entrepreneur return on investment (ROI) is very important and should be a key factor in your marketing efforts. Landing pages, a standalone web page created specifically for marketing, have a significant role in the conversions of prospective customers. To accomplish your marketing goals, it is important to include certain, key elements on your landing page. Here are 5 must haves:

1. A Compelling Headline

What about your product or service would arouse immediate interest to your target audience? You must come up with a killer, keyword rich headline for your landing page. Use the Google keyword planner tool for help to discover how your customers are searching for the products or services that you offer. In short, your headline should accomplish the following tasks:

  • It should draw the attention of the audience.
  • It should inform the reader about your service or product.
  • It should be crisp and short, preferably no more than 10 words.

2. An Effective and Simple Call to Action

A study by Jacob Nielsen, reveals that majority of website visitors do not scroll. They will view what is above the fold (the web page area that can be seen without scrolling down). So, when you place your call to action on your landing page, it should be above the fold and require the least amount of customer information as possible.

Also, before your visitor's sign up, purchase, register, etc. make it clear to them what they will be getting. Remove any doubt that might exist in the minds of your visitors.

3. Online Chat Capability or Comment Features

Online chat or comment boxes are a great way to engage with your landing page viewers. You can give your readers the information they're looking for, in the moment with live chat or respond to comments to answer any questions that all users can read for more information.

4. Visual Elements

While it can be tempting to include a lot of text on your landing page, it is very important to also include visual elements. Video has proven to be hugely successful for your landing page, but if you do not have a video asset, be sure to include visual elements of your products or services to break up your test and keep users engaged.

5. Language Directed to Your Target Audience

You should be creating your landing page with a specific audience in mind. If you are trying to talk to everyone, you will connect with no one. So break your audience up into segments like new moms, parents with school-aged children, parents of teens etc. You can make 3 similar landing pages to reach these 3 different groups, and your language should speak to them accordingly although you might ultimately be selling them the same product.

If you create a landing page with all the above must-haves in mind, then you are sure to have a high ROI.
