Is Your Business Optimized for Local SEO?

If you own a business with one or more physical locations, you may be missing some key components in your SEO plan. Local SEO uses similar principles to organic SEO, but some of the goals and techniques are specific to your location. Let’s look at what you need to do to ensure your local business is found.

Organic SEO

When you speak about organic search engine optimization, you’re referring to techniques that will place you at the top of search results without paying for ads. You take steps to research keywords and create a mobile-friendly website with high-quality content.

Local SEO

Local SEO takes the components of organic SEO and adds a location-based focus. The goal is to make your brick-and-mortar location appear in Google’s Local Pack results. This is a feature that appears at the top of the search engine results page (SERP) with a map and top local businesses that meet the searcher’s query. They look something like this:

These results are highly sought after because they appear before the organic results on the SERP. This boosted position makes it easy for potential customers to quickly find your business, ratings, and location.

Optimizing for Google’s Local Pack

The best way to optimize for local search is to set up your Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business). This is a free profile that highlights essential information about your business, including your business hours and telephone number.

Best Tips for Appearing in Local Pack Results

  1. Enter as much information as you can about your business. This is a person’s first impression of your business, so be as informative as possible. For example, in addition to your products and services, include that you’re LGBTQ+ friendly or women-owned.
  2. Verify your business. Google verified businesses are considered more reputable.
  3. Add photos. Post your logo, storefront, menu, interior, and other images that will expand a viewer’s impression of your business.
  4. Keep your info updated. If there are any changes, temporary or permanent, make sure you update your listing.
  5. Respond to reviews promptly and appropriately.

With a small time investment, you can claim and manage your Google Business Profile to manage how your local business shows up in the Local Pack, SERPs, and Maps. Need help figuring out your SEO strategy? Contact KP Kreative today!
